This research is a descriptive content Analysis study about the participation of martyrs in jihad, martyr-liking and presence at the eight-year Holy Defense which is done on the basis of the wills of martyrs in ArdabilProvince in five years.
The aims of this study was to deepen the jihad and martyrdom thoughts, explain the rich culture of holy war, venerate the remembrance of martyrs and clarify their major motivations, and expand the spirit of martyrdom-liking and knighthood by introducing martyrs’ thoughts and high-minded aspiration, and struggling to popularize those merits to the present and future generations. The strategic and special situation of Islamic Republic in the region, required us of fully readiness to confront with enemies’ threats at any time, and by understanding this issue, great martyrs achieved the self-awareness and cognizance so that they sacrificed anything to attend the war and did their national and religious duty, in spite of having the aspiration of youthfulness. Therefore, if the reasons and motivations which could revolutionize them were clear, today’s generation would find a role model. Otherwise, continuing their path was perhaps impossible and every individual would vindicate them and the commemoration of the martyrs without study efforts would merely result to have some poetry and motto, albeit holy passion. Merely love and honor without recognizing the real beliefs and aims, though useful, are not sufficient. Martyrdom and being killed for beliefs, religion, and homeland has existed in all societies and cultures with variety of forms, and martyrdom-liking as a beginning for being sacrificed voluntarily and consciously with spiritual incentives for fulfilling high values, emerges at the history of various religions and cultures (Jewish, Christianity, western chivalry, Japanese Culture, Shintonism, and the history of the current Japan and ancient Iran of pre-Islam).
In studying the analysis of martyrs’ wills, Arabnejad declared that the most significant incentives of attending the war were edict of supreme leader and Islam. And in the analysis of Torbat Heydariye’s Martyrs’ wills, khoshtinat declared that the last words of martyrs were recommending to obey the leader, to do what Quran says, and to make efforts for fulfilling the holy aims of Islamic System and to save the merits and accomplishments of revolution, and wishes peace and solution to the leader of the revolution, which indicates the high value of leader and Imam Khomeini’s personality among martyrs. Today, many years after those eras, the direct contact of the current generation with the epistle wills of those honorable men which are of the most valuable, sincere and holiest documents of Islamic Revolutionary seems to be more crucial than ever. In this survey, all of the province’s existed will of Holy Defense’s martyrs (774 ones) were handed to the researchers by Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs. In order not to ignore anything, in spite of all the hardship, the researcher studied all the wills and evaluated them by questionnaire. After studying and posing questions from the wills and entering data to the main table, the data was analyzed by SPSS.
In the frequency distribution, defending Islam and passion for Imam Khomeini (70%) allocated the highest incentive to attend the war. Consent of Lord, passion for martyrdom, modeling Quran verses, obligation, passion for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), following other martyrs, and passion for jihad gaining 50% of all, stood on the third to eighth level. Modeling justice-seeking Holy Imams, hatred of oppression, waiting for Imam Mahdi’s emergence, zeal of homeland, and defending it, containing 31% to 49%, were some of the other reasons. Opening the route to Karbala, legitimacy of act, fighting Saddam, passion for visiting Lord, relief of Martyrs’ family, and relief of nation, and freeing Qods, ranged from 5% to 19% which stood at the end levels of incentives. The 68.8% of martyrs had willed about a specific person mainly to the family (76.3%), and (3%) to their co-fighters. Their emphasized recommendation was the same as their presence at war, which included obedience to Imam, defending Islam, defending the Revolution, and continuing other martyr’s path and at the lower levels, they were safeguarding the Islamic covering, and not to compromising with enemy. Approximately, half of the martyrs (53.4%) had prayed for blessing, which most of them (9.5%) were from their mothers and fathers and 4% was only from mother. The majority of martyrs (85.3%) had not willed about their properties, 80.2% about their funeral ceremonies, and 84.7% about their mourning ceremonies. 45.7% of martyrs had not willed about treating with people regarding their martyrdom, and most of recommendations were about patience (16.1%) and not to mourn (13.2%). 30.8% adored martyrdom, and only %3 of martyrs have mentioned “There in no way”.
The results show that personal and non-divine incentives did not interfere in the presence of martyrs at war, and they participated at war because of divine and Islamic incentives, passion for Imam, jihad, martyrdom and adherence to Quran and Holy Imams (peace be upon them). Fighting Saddam, comfort, and martyrs’ family living at peace, which represent a sense of seeking revenge for their relieves were at the lower range of incentives. At present, the best and most influent way to glorify martyrs is to recognize and glorify the affluent culture of jihad and martyrdom, to introduce to the next generations, so that the flag of the martyr would be flourishing forever.
